HighWire was founded by Standford University in the mid-nineties to serve organizations that produce journals and other scholarly publications. Accel-KKR purchased majority ownership of HighWire in 2014. As of 2017, Meta, underwritten by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, will include all of the journals published by HIghWire as part of its mission to support the science and technology that will make it possible to cure, prevent or manage all diseases by the end of the century.
